The 7th Annual Independence Uncorked Wine Festival will be held on September, 14th, 2019 from 1:00pm-6:00pm on the grounds of the Historic Bingham-Waggoner Estate in Independence, MO. Independence Uncorked will be one of the largest Missouri wine festivals in the state featuring 25 Missouri wineries sampling several of their wines, a guest spirits distiller, and over 1900 attendees. The day will also feature art, music, beer, food booths and wine classes. The event is hosted by the Rotary Club of Eastern Independence and presented by Stewardship Capital. The cost will be $30 in advance and $40 at the door and will include a wine glass and 4 bottle wine bag (for 1st 2000 people). The Bingham-Waggoner Estate is an 1852 mansion and estate once owned by George Caleb Bingham, the famous Missouri artist. Proceeds from the events will go towards various national and local charities supported by Rotary. Beneficiaries have included the McCoy Park all-inclusive Play Ground, Great Plains SPCA, Community Services League, Independence School District Character Plus Program, Special Olympics, Shoes for Orphan Soles, Shelter Box, Job One, CAPA, Hope House, Rotary Youth Camp, Drumm Farm for Kids and the Rotary Foundation to name just a few. This year’s charity of choice is Restoration House of Greater Kansas City-Ending Human Trafficking. Bring your lawn chairs and spend the afternoon. No outside food or drink allowed, but food will be available for sale.

This is a City of Independence Police Department event. The run is in cooperation with Missouri Special Olympics and is to bring awareness, along with fund raising efforts, for adults and children with developmental disabilities involved with the organization. I have identified a 3.5 mile course along with a 6 mile course for participants (map attached). The event will begin and end at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena with a provided lunch for participants. Lunch provided by the Greater KC Public Safety Credit Union. The event will run routes along Valley View Parkway, Jackson Drive, Little Blue Parkway, RD Mize Rd., and E. 39th Street. There will be no complete roadway closures with only some intersection control handled by the Independence Police Department. All runners will utilize the right shoulder, or lane when appropriate, or sidewalks. There will be emergency vehicles with the runners to ensure their safety and to warn surrounding motorists. The traffic issues will be supervised by Sgt. Steve McVay with the Independence Mo. Police Department's Traffic Unit.

Santa will join the festivities and lead everyone up to the Square for Living Windows at 7 p.m.
The Downtown Square Association is excited to once again have the Living Windows as a part of the holiday fun. Local artists, choirs, dance studios and more will be performing in the windows of downtown stores which will also be open late to get some of that holiday shopping in. On November 3, 2019, the Epilepsy Foundation of Missouri and Kansas (EFMK) will host our 7th annual Seize the Day Run/Walk event in Kansas City. This is a professionally timed 5K run and walk and 10k that attracts over 200 enthusiastic participants each year. Our event raises funds and awareness to support those who live with epilepsy in Missouri.
EFMK proudly leads the fight to stop seizures, find a cure and overcome the challenges created by epilepsy. Every hour, 20 Americans are diagnosed as having epilepsy. More than twice as many Americans have seizure disorders (epilepsy) as have Parkinson's disease, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and muscular dystrophy combined! Yet, none of these well-known diseases carry the powerful stigma associated with epilepsy.
Funds raised from this event will help our small organization educate school nurses, students, school personnel, emergency medical technicians, police recruits, employers and about the signs, symptoms and treatment for people with epilepsy allowing children and adults to live and work more independently.
